Greek Biftekia: A Family Favorite

If you’re in the mood for a taste of Greece, you’re in for a treat!

Biftekia, a classic Greek dish, has been a cherished family favorite for as long as I can remember. Whether you want to savor these delish beef patties fresh out of the oven or add them as a part of your meal prep rotation, this recipe is sure to satisfy your cravings.

What sets this recipe apart is the use of fresh herbs, which infuse it with vibrant flavors. Additionally, I’ve made a slight twist by replacing bread with a touch of wheat bran, making it a lower-carb option while giving it an extra fiber boost.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1.5 lbs. 90% Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Red Onion (Chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Mint (Chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1 Clove Garlic (Minced)
  • 1/4 cup Wheat Bran
  • 2 tsp Olive Oil
  • 1/4 cup Warm Water

Here’s how to make Biftekia:

  1. Mix It Up: In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients with the ground beef. This is where the magic happens as the flavors meld together.
  1. Shape the Patties: Form the mixture into small patties. You can make them as big or as small as you prefer.
    • Smaller shaped meatballs are known as Keftedes
  1. Bake to Perfection: Preheat your oven to 400°F and place the patties on a baking sheet. Bake for approximately 35-40 minutes or until they are beautifully browned and cooked through.
  1. Complete the Meal: To enjoy the full Greek experience, pair your Biftekia with a delicious Greek yogurt-based dip, Tzatziki, and a refreshing Greek salad.
  1. Serve and Enjoy!

A Bonus: Make-Ahead and Enjoy Anytime

One of the best things about this recipe is its versatility. You can make a batch ahead of time and reheat them whenever you want a little taste of Greece. The flavors only seem to get better with time, making it a great option for meal prep.

So, there you have it – a recipe that’s not only delicious but nutritionally balanced. Whether you’re cooking for family, friends, or just for yourself, these Biftekia are sure to transport your taste buds to the Mediterranean!
